One hundred and seventy-three pounds. I recorded into my diet book then sat straight in my seat. I stared across the table at my two younger twin brothers. Travis, who was munching away on a chocolate chip muffin, was talking to his twin, Tyrone, who was also tearing through his muffin. I stared at them with anxiousness, wanting to eat those muffins. “Baby, you alright?” A voice woke me up. I glanced up, seeing Dana, my annoying-goody-two-shoes-everyone-loves-my-new-breast-implants-step-mother standing over me with a cup of nice smelling coffee.
“Uh, yeah,” I muttered, looking away as she walked past me, patting my head.
“Then, why don’t you eat?” She wondered. I eyed my orange with a silver spoon nearby in a tissue. Also, I had a burnt toast in a China dish. I rolled my eyes barely.
“This is food?” I asked, glancing back at The Tatter-Tots, which is what I call Tyrone and Travis behind their backs. She shrugged then sat down at the table. As she sat down, I spotted my dad running down the stairs. He was still fixing his tie. Dana looked around then behind her.
“Hi baby, rushing, huh?” She asked, pecking him on the lips. Don’t call him baby. You don’t love him. You only love him for his fucking money. I thought angrily. Daddy smiled then took my toast then kissed my forehead.
“Yes, got a huge interview with the chief.” He chuckled, slapping a handshake with The Tatter-Tots. “ I gotta go,” He kissed Dana again on the lips, slipping on his shoes near the stove. He glanced over at me with a smile. “Thanks for the toast, baby girl.” He said, rushing to the door.
“But, that was—“ I saw Dana glare over at me, telling me to shut up. I clamped down my mouth. “Mine,” I squeaked. I got up, suddenly not wanting to eat. I can buy breakfast at school instead.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Dana hissed as the door shut close.
“Duh, school,” I snapped quietly. “It’s already six-fifty-one, Dana. Can you ride me to school?” I asked nicely.
“NO! She’s driving us to school, fatty!” Tyrone screamed. I shot him a look and he got up. “Besides, you need the exercise, man, you mad heavy.” He laughed then Travis high-fived him. Dana couldn’t help but smile unnoticeably even though it was HUGE.
“Dana, so?” I asked, ignoring them. They were just background noises to me. Let them burn in hell, I don’t care. Just stupid stepbrothers. It was better when it was just Daddy and I and my older brother but he passed away because of a school shooting two years ago. She shrugged again. It seems that’s all she says to me. Shrugs.
“Travis and Tyrone need the drive, though.” She smiled. Favoritism. I thought awfully offended. “I’ll pick you up though.”
“I need the ride, Dana! School starts in like five minutes!” I screamed, freaking out now.
“Hmm, oh well. Let’s go boys. You going to be late,” She said, cracking a smile at me then rushing her boys to their rooms to get ready. I sighed then ran to my room, which was in the basement, and got my bookbag and dumped my books in there and ran out the backdoor, taking the quicker way to school, as if I would get there on time.
